WHAT IS NETBALL?
Netball is a fast-paced, team sport similar to basketball, played by two teams of seven players. The objective is to score goals by passing a ball down the court and shooting it through a raised hoop. It emphasizes quick passing, strategic movement, and teamwork, with players restricted to certain areas of the court based on their position. Popular worldwide, especially among women, netball is played at recreational, competitive, and international levels.
A Brief History of Netball
Netball originated in England in the late 19th century as a variation of basketball. It quickly grew in popularity, especially in Commonwealth countries, and has since evolved into a global sport with professional leagues and international competitions.
“Today, netball is played by more than 20 million people in over 80 countries, with strong followings in nations such as Australia, New Zealand, England, Jamaica, and South Africa.”
